AUCTION 37 ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR
Lot 194:
A US Navy officer’s sword with an original scabbard covered in black leather and fitted with a gilded metal throat and chape, bearing two carrying rings. A slightly curved single-edged blade is made of polished stainless etched steel. A master’s "ROVE" stamp to the forte of the blade. The bade carries the lettering "George Garle" and geometrical ornament. A golden twisted wire goes all around the gilded hilt and the American eagle with stars to the pommel. Cir. Early 20th century.
Dimensions: L: 34 in., (86.5 cm.)
Condition: Very good, original gilding is almost entirely preserved. The blade is in excellent shape.
