A fine hunting hanger (dagger) with a decorated cast-iron hilt depicting Heracles and the Nemean lion, the other Heracles and Antaeus. The blade is double-edged with a pointy tip and two grooves on each side. The crossguard features a relief of a buffalo on one side and a lion on the other fighting with hounds. The quillon terminals are cast as lion heads. The scabbard is made of stitched brown leather mounted with engraved steel fittings.France, the first half of the 19th century.

Condition: Very good overall, the blade is slightly pitted, minor scratches to the scabbard surface.
