Lot 146:
18th-century Russian icon of the Intercession of the Theotokos depicts the Virgin of the Veil, also known as Pokrov or Our Lady of Protection. This icon commemorates the feast of the Protecting Veil or Pokrov which originated in Russia, when pilgrims visited the Constantinople Church of the Blachernae, the location where the veil of the Virgin was kept. Hand painted in egg tempera and gesso on wood board.
Dimensions: 11 3/8 x 9 1/8 in., (29 x 23.3 cm.)
Condition: Good with very minor signs of wear.
