Konstantin Andreevich Somov (Russian, 1869–1939), oil on canvas painting "View of the Garden from Verandah (Martyshkino)", 1896. Signed and dated lower left. Housed in an original Italian 16th-century Sansovino frame with carved decor and a metal plaque attached to the lower center, inscribed with the name of the artist and title of the painting.Bibliography: "A Time to Gather… Russian Art From Foreign Private Collections", State Russian Museum, Saint-Petersburg, Palace Editions, 2008, illustrated on p.25.Konstantin Andreevich Somov was a Russian painter and graphic artist, master of portrait and landscape, illustrator, and one of the founders of the Mir Iskusstva association and the magazine of the same name. Konstantin Somov is known for numerous portrait works, as well as paintings and drawings depicting genre scenes resurrecting the world of court balls and masquerades of the 18th century.
