Russian Pictures, Works of Art and Icons, Sotheby’s London, 5-6 December 1989, lot 156.Konstantin Andreevich Somov (1869-1939) was a Russian painter and graphic artist, master of portrait and landscape, illustrator, and one of the founders of the Mir Iskusstva association and the magazine of the same name. Somov is known for numerous portrait works, as well as paintings and drawings depicting genre scenes resurrecting the world of court balls and masquerades of the "gallant" 18th-century.
