The Alexandria Yacht Service was inspired by the so-called Cottage Service, which was commissioned for the Cottage Palace in Alexandria Park at Peterhof, built by Nicholas I and completed in 1829. This service was made for use on the Imperial Yacht Alexandria and is distinguished from the Cottage Service by a blue rather than gold band around the rim. The plain white service of imperial porcelain is decorated with the shield, a symbol of the Cottage Palace, with a sword piercing a wreath of white roses, and the Cyrillic motto on the gold band forming the outer edge of the shield. The coat of arms was created by the poet, Vasilli Zhukovsky, tutor to Alexander Nikolaevich.
