AUCTION 43: ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR
Lot 151:
A large rectangular strong box. The box is heavily decorated with wrought metal both on the exterior and interior. The front features a wrought anthropomorphic face and painted images of people, mythical creatures, and floral designs. The box is dated 1748. A complex lock mechanism, covered by an elaborate overlay, can be seen on the interior of the lid. There is a small compartment that originally had its key for small valuables. The key is missing now.
35 1/2 x 19 x 19 in., (90.2 x 48.25 x 48.25 cm.)
Condition: Very good, the paint is original, the key is missing, there is a small hole on the bottom of the strong box cut to probably get access to the lock to open it. The hole was made in the past.
