AUCTION 43: ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR
Lot 221:
A rare shashka with a light curved fullered blade decorated with Arabic inscriptions, original wooden scabbard covered in black stitched leather, featuring low-grade silver mounts.
Inscriptions read "(O Prophet), surely We have granted you a clear victory…" (Sura Al-Fath Quran Chapter 48, Verse 1) and Shahada "There is no god but the God [Allah] and Muhammad is his Prophet …". The inscription in the cartouche reads "Made by Mustafa".
Most probably it belonged to a North Caucasian muhajeer on service in the Ottoman army.

Condition: Very good overall, chape has dents, horn grip is slightly chipped.
