A PAIR OF OTTOMAN SILVER-MOUNTED ORIENTAL FLINTLOCK PISTOLS, CIRCA 1820 - 1830

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: $2,000

Estimated price: $3,000 - $4,000

Buyer's premium:

An identical pair of exquisite silver-mounted Ottoman flintlock pistols from the first few decades of the 19th century. The mechanisms all appear to be working well with springs still retaining good tension. The bore diameter is 18mm.

There is fine engraving and relief work on the breech and tang of both guns, with additional decoration running the length of the barrels. The brass lock plates and trigger guards are also intricately engraved with filigree and floral designs. The lock mechanism is more understated, yet still sophisticated, and features a smooth and rounded plate with decorative spiraling at the base of the frizzen spring.

The wooden stock is intricately carved, again with filigree and floral designs, and is mounted beautifully, with bone at the muzzle and silver along the pseudo-ramrod. The pommels are decorated with wonderfully executed engraving and relief work, and the handles have diamond-shaped metal inserts with a chain-like design within and quarrels running vertically along them.
