AUCTION 43: ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR
Lot 317:
An early 18th-century French hunting dagger with a tapering single-edged blade, cast-bronze clamshell guard and pommel, and an exquisite pearl and tortoiseshell grip. The blade is engraved on both sides with images of stags, and the clamshell guard shows a stag being chased by hounds.
L: 26 in., (66 cm.)
Condition: The blade is slightly pitted. The grip scales show minor cracks. The brass furniture retains some of the original gilding. The scabbard is missing.
