AUCTION 43: ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR
Lot 56:
A unique, lifesized hand-carved wooden bust of a German NCO for the 14th Panzer Division (Army) with an engraved dedication on a fitted plaque, signed by Rolf Grams, a regimental commander within the 14 Panzer Division heavily wounded in the battle. He honored his unit with this gift, shortly after the battle.
The dedication in German translates: "To remember the heroic defense and fight for Stalingrad. With unbelievable courage and bravery and the sacrifice of our fallen heroes. To our comrades of the 14th Panzer Division."
Rolf Grams had to be medically evacuated out of Stalingrad due to his severe injuries. He was awarded the German Cross in Gold at Stalingrad. After the war he became the unit’s historian and authored a book on the 14th Panzer Division.

Condition: Good overall, several cracks on the helmet, minor chips along the helmet rim.
