Лот 111:
Nikolai Nikolaevich Sapunov (Russian, 1880–1912), an oil on canvas painting "Roses en fleurs, " 1900. Signed lower right in Cyrillic "N. Sapunov" and dated "1900". Housed in a magnificent original period gilt wood frame with carved Art Nouveau patterns.
Note: Nicolai Sapunov studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under Isaac Levitan and worked with Sudeikin as a theatre designer in Moscow, producing some magnificent sets for the Bolshoi Theatre. He was invited to participate in the two famous Symbolist exhibitions at the turn of the century, The Crimson Rose (1904) and The Blue Rose (1907), in which artists presented an ambiguous, twilight world, that combined poetic dreams and references to folklore with reality, sadness and hope.

Condition: Framed under glass, the canvas appers tp be in a good condition, stains on the verso.
