The inspiration for the "Thrice King" subject comes from the 1st-century AD Roman work of fiction "Satyricon" by Petronius. D’Aroma invented this image as one of the tacky and excessive dishes served by the newly enriched Trimalchio (Thrice King in English). The figure is one of the artist’s most iconic images.
Fabio D’Aroma is a classically trained Italian artist who paints in a grotesque figurative style All of his characters are additions to a planned 300-character frieze. D’Aroma has exhibited widely in the United States and Europe. Parts of his procession were shown at the Station Museum in Houston, Texas, and the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York City. In 2022, he opened his personal gallery at Corso Vittorio Emanuele II in Rome. In 2023 D’Aroma opened a second studio/showroom at Corso Gabriele Manthone, Pescara.
