AUCTION 45: ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR
Lot 145:
This is an elegantly crafted Imperial Russian kindjal dagger produced by the Zlatoust Arms Factory at the turn of the 20th century. The blade is of the typical kindjal shape, still somewhat sharp all these years later, and it is decorated near to the hilt with the Imperial Eagle framed by foliage and the words ‘Zlatoust Or. Fabr’.
The hilt of the dagger is the highlight, with brilliantly done gold damascene scrollwork on the guard and pommel, as well as a grip of green stone, rectangular in shape with rounded corners. The scabbard is mounted with a throat and chape of metal, similarly damascened with gold scrollwork, as well as red velvet lining around the scabbard.
L: 16 in., (41 cm.)
Condition: Very good overall. Some very minor oxidation on small areas of the metal fittings. Red velvet has some minor scuffs.
