AUCTION 45: ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR
Lot 201:
The blade of this sword dates from the 18th century and is typical in shape for a yataghan. Both sides have been inlaid with silver along their entire length with a variety of different patterns, one side having what may be some sort of script as well, though it is too faded to make out. The grip scales on this piece do not appear to be original but rather a mid 19th century replacement for what was probably a more ornate handle.
L: 33 1/4 in., (86 cm.)
Condition: Blade has warped in places and is pitted throughout. The inlay is worn and faded in places but is mostly present. Grip scales are probably a 19th century replacement for an earlier more ornate hilt.
