AUCTION 45: ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR
Lot 262:
A fine sporting musket from the famous gunsmithing city of Eibar in Spain. The red-brown wood stock of the gun is nicely crafted, with a tapered buttstock and zig-zag checkered grip, with the remainder of the stock extending three quarters of the length of the barrel and being attached by two barrel-bands with six cut-grooves each. The first third of the barrel is octagonal, and decorated with multiple gilt cartouches of varying design, including the Spanish Lion, multiple Fleur de Lis, and a proof mark, as well as the inscription ‘En Eibar 1813’ inlaid with silver and surrounded by similarly inlaid foliate design. The lock mechanism is engraved with foliate designs as well as what appears to be some text partially obscured by part of the mechanism.
Bore Diameter: 20mm.
L: 51 in., (129.5 cm.)
Condition: Very good. Some loss to gilding on some cartouches. Light staining of the barrel, consistent with age. Some minor dings and knicks to stock consistent with use.
