AUCTION 45: ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOR
Lot 268:
A 19th century European side-by-side pinfire ‘howdah’ pistol, possibly Belgian. It is a smoothbore gun with a bore diameter of 15mm. The smoothbore meant it was capable of firing either regular "ball" ammunition like that used in standard pistols, or "shot" like that used in shotguns.
All of the mechanisms are in working order and are very smooth. There are only minor losses to the chrome finish due to rust or abrasion. The checked wooden grip scales are in very good condition, with only a slight crack on the left grip scale. The scales are slightly loose, but could possibly be tightened if desired. The pistol has light filigree engraving on the triggers and the surrounding areas.
L: 11 1/4 in., (28 cm.)
Condition: Very good with minor losses to the chrome finish, and slightly loosened grip scales.
