A pair of antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox Silver Oklad traveling icons. Both items feature iconography on the front and fabric coverings on the back with hooking points on top for display.

The first item is ovoid-shaped portraying the image of the "Calvary Cross, " a version of the Russian Orthodox Cross. This "Calvary Cross" is distinguished by the Holy Lance on the left, the pole with the sponge on the right, and the skull and bones of Adam on the bottom. This icon also displays a city in the background.

The second item is a rectangular piece depicting Our Lady of Kazan, also called Mother of God of Kazan. The image shows the Virgin with her head inclined toward the Infant Christ. The Christ Child in a frontal pose with his right hand raised in blessing and left hand covered.

Russia, 19th century.

Each piece H: 4 3/4 in., (12.1 cm.)

Condition: Good overall. Silver tarnished throughout surface of both pieces. Painting in very good condition. Fabric on backs shows signs of age and use, mostly intact.
