A pair of fine silver and champleve enamel holy christening ointments for the catholic military order of Calatrava. The surface is richly decorated with enameled patterns, round medallions depicting Christian symbols and Calatrava order emblems. The hinged lid handles are set with gemstone cabochons. Both vessels feature elegantly scrolled handles.

Note: The Order of Calatrava was one of the four Spanish military orders and the first military order founded in Castile, but the second to receive papal approval. Circa the early 19th century. Provenance: Private Collection, Jerusalem, Israel.
