FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE 20TH CENTURY
Lot 200:
A pair of wall plates depicting the Prince and Princess of Wales, probably created soon after the 1863 wedding of Prince Albert Edward (future King Edward VII of the United Kingdom) and Princess Alexandra of Denmark (future Queen Consort of the United Kingdom). Theirs was the last marriage of a Prince of Wales until the wedding of Prince Charles (now King Charles III) and Princess Diana in 1981. The plaques are each circular plates of bronze in wooden frames with the heads of Prince Albert Edward and Princess Alexandra in high relief at the center, set above the text ‘Prince of Wales’ and ‘Princess of Wales’ respectively.

Condition: Each frame has a large crack. Some wear to surface throughout. Bronze nicely patinated. Some surface staining in places.
