B Prabha (Indian, 1933 – 2001), oil painting on canvas, depicting a portrait of a woman in a red veil holding her child against her chest. Signed upper right corner.
Note: B Prabha is known for female portrait, figure, genre easel and mural painting. B. Prabha entered the art world at a time when few Indian women were professionally involved in the art world. Having grown up in the small Indian village of Bela, near Nagpur, India, her work found perennial theme in the lives of rural women, and the artist continually explored an array of related subjects alluding to society, identity and gender equality.

Condition: Near perfect condition. Slight cracking on the edge along the crease. Signs of mounting on the white border. Removed from stretcher.
