A Victorian English brass microscope marked ‘J. P. Cutts & Sons / Opticians to her Majesty / Sheffield’. The company operated for most of the 19th Century under many variations of their name, this particular one being in use from 1840-1845. The microscope has a tube that can be raised and lowered via the rack and pinion mechanism visible on one of its sides. It was once part of a larger set that included a collection of swappable lenses and slides, the extant lens being marked ‘4’.

Condition: Good overall with some wear throughout surface consistent with age and use. Some missing finish on mirror surface. Twist knob for operating rack and pinion mechanism is missing, mechanism still works.
