FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE 20TH CENTURY
Lot 65:
A cold-painted, or polychrome painted, bronze sculpture mounted on a metal casket. The statue depicts a female figure resting on a Persian-styled rug, her arm outstretched holding a dish as if requesting alms. The casket dons a scrolling arabesque motif and opens up at the top with two hinges, revealing a topless wooden box inside for housing and storage. This design originates from bronze factories in Vienna, possibly from the Franz Xavier Bergmann foundry.
