August von Siegen (German, 1850 — 1920s), oil on canvas painting depicting the classic view of Venice with the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale) and the bell tower of St. Mark’s Basilica. Signed by the artist lower right. Unframed.
Note: August von Siegen was a German painter, who especially loved painting coastal views, urban scenes, and Venetian landscapes. He has lived in Monaco but has also worked in Vienna. He traveled through Europe: the Netherlands, Venice, and Rome by painting the architectural landscapes of cities and towns. He also visited the East pausing in Izmir in Turkey where he produced a series of Orientalist paintings. His works are highly appreciated for the attention to detail and architectural details rendered with clarity, as in this fine example given by the pair of oils presented in our sales describing in detailed manners bright views of the Venetian Republic.
