Lidiya Masterkova, (Russian Soviet, 1927 — 2008), oil painting on canvas ‘Lavender, ‘ 1971 depicting an Abstract landscape created in an expressive impasto technique. Signed and dated lower right. Additionally inscribed ‘To Volodya, ‘ signed, titled, and dated on verso. This painting is one of a pair — the second painting, ‘Northern Settlement, ‘ 1973, dedicated to Sergey, was sold at the Shapiro Auctions, on October 21, 2023, FINE & DECORATIVE ART, lot 127. Note: Lidiya Masterkova is known for Abstract oil and watercolor painting, ink collage, mixed media, and fabric art. Lidia Alekseevna Masterkova is a Russian nonconformist artist from the Lianozovo circle. She was one of the first to turn to metaphysical abstraction. Masterkova endows geometric figures with sacred meaning, uses the circle motif, and creates three-dimensional textures. After emigrating to France in 1975, monochrome color prevails in his work.
