A nicely crafted pair of gilt-bronze candelabras from Napoleonic France. Each piece consists of a wide circular base with a border of large palmettes, the center of the base being slightly raised and acting as a plinth for the central column of the candelabra. The top 2/3rds of the column is of a tapering 12 sided shape, the lower 1/3rd being smooth for its first half then ribbed for its second as it reaches the foot, which is made of three joined paws like those of a lion. The arms of the candelabra are curved and decorated with various swooping shapes, their ends bearing stern faces looking outward. Atop the arms are set the sconces which are decorated with stippling and palmette shapes as well as having decorated plates below them for catching wax. The central finial of the candelabra is topped with a beautiful finial depicting a pine cone.
