Alexander Vasilievich Shevchenko (Russian, 1883-1948), oil on canvas painting "The Park in Autumn, " 1943. Signed with initials and dated on the lower right.
Note: Aleksandr Shevchenko was a Russian painter and art theorist. In 1899-1909 studied at Stroganov School, Moscow School of painting, sculpture, and architecture from A.E. Arkhipov and K.A. Korovin, then in Paris at R. Julienne Academy and in the workshop of E. Karrier. Took part in exhibitions of “Work of Art”, “Donkey Tail”, “Youth Union”, “Makovets”, “Moscow artists society”, “Target” and “? 4”. In 1918-1921 was director of the literature and art sub-department of the Art Board of People’s Commissariat of Education, in 1918-1929 gave lectures at Higher State Art and Technical Studios, took an active part in the work of the Russian Academy of art sciences and the creation of Museum of painting culture. In the 1930-s made a creative trip to the east: to Adzharia, Dagestan, Azerbaijan. The works of the painter are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian State Museum, in many regional museums, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad.
