JUNE 2024 SALE OF FINE ARTS AND COLLECTIBLES
Lot 59:
Malwa School of Painting is centered largely in Malwa and Bundelkhand in Central India. The school was conservative and little development is seen from the earliest examples such as Rasakapriya and Bhagwat Purana series. Malwa paintings show a fondness for rigorously flat composition, black and brown backgrounds, figures shown against a solid color patch and architecture painted in lively colors. The school’s most appealing features are a primitive charm and simple childlike vision.
9 x 11 in., (23 x 28 cm.)
Condition: Overall conditon is good. Minor stains at the top and slight wear at the edges.
