Portrait of Alexei Petrovitch, tsarevich of Russia by Petr Afanasiev (1866-1960). This portrait was among illustrations made by Afanasiev for the Russian edition of Kazimierz Waliszewski’s monograph "Peter The Great: upbringing, personality, deeds" published by Sphinx in 1911.
Petr Semenovich Afanasiev was a Russian artist who worked mainly as a book illustrator.
Sphinx was a Moscow-based publishing house that existed between 1907 and 1914 and was famous for publishing exquisitely illustrated editions.
