Maqbool Fida Husain (17 September 1915 – 9 June 2011) watercolor and ink on paper.

Husain was born in 1915 in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, India. He passed away in London in 2011. After a brief stint at the Indore Art College, Husain migrated to Mumbai and supported himself by painting cinema hoardings. In 1947 he became a founder member of the Progressive Artists’ Group, and in 1968, he won the Golden Bear for his film Through the Eyes of a Painter.

Provenance: according to the late collector and owner’s son, the artwork is a part of the owner’s late father’s inheritance (Mirza Sami Baig Born, born: July 1, 1949, Hyd India, passed away in India visiting in 2013) which includes over 2500 artworks from India. The artworks were purchased directly from the artist in India while Mirza Sami Baig Born made multiple trips to visit the country.
