AUCTION 50: ANTIQUE MILITARIA, FALL 2024
Lot 199:
1. A WWI-era German ersatz bayonet. Ersatz (substitute) bayonets were made during the early years of WWI due to a lack of regulation bayonets for the rapidly expanding army. This example is a later variation and was possibly sent to Turkey due to its shortened blade from the standard German spec. The blade’s spine displays a fraktur-proof mark and the scabbard bears the mark of Fischers Aktien-Gesellschaft (FAG).
2. A German export version of the M1884/98 WWI-era knife bayonet, manufactured in Solingen. The manufacturer’s mark is on the Ricasso. The blade’s spine bears a faded Royal Cypher of Kaiser Wilhelm II.
Europe – 19th/20th Century
Longest: 15 15/16 in., (40.5 cm.)
Condition: Very good overall. Signs of age, wear, and dents throughout. Rust and tarnishing in places. Wood handle is chipped.
