A World War II Era NR-40 combat knife originating in the Soviet Union. The NR-40 was mass-produced in 1940 by the Soviet Union in response to the Army, during the Winter War, lacking a good combat knife. The knife is a single-edged 6 in. (15.2 cm.) blade with a clip point. The handle is made of brown wood with a Soviet standard, ‘inverted" S-shaped guard allowing the blade’s edge to be held upwards. The blade is engraved with the hammer and sickle symbol and Cyrillic phrases translated into: "Under the banner of Lenin-Stalin Forward, to Victory" and "For our Soviet Motherland." Manufacturing marks "???" (ZiK) refer to the ZiK factory in Zlatoust, Urals where the NR-40 was predominantly produced. This example was manufactured in 1943.

Soviet Russia, 1943.

L: 11 1/2 in., (29.5 cm.)
