Superb Ottoman Yataghan. Strong blade with broadened flat back, arched forward, inlaid with repetitive motifs on a gilded background. An embossed bronze leaf covers the back of the blade at the start. The weapon is plate-mounted with two superb fossil ivory plates. The sides of the sole plate are covered with a brass band. In its leather-covered wood-cored scabbard with two brass trimmings, zoomorphic-terminated bolt tip. Chappe à ressouder.
Ottoman Empire, 19th Century.
L: 33 5/8 in., (85.5 cm.)
Condition: Good overall. The hilt brass mount is split at the pommel. Signs of restoration. Scabbard leather is peeling in places.
