AUCTION 50: ANTIQUE MILITARIA, FALL 2024
Lot 431:
This Turkish flintlock pistol is likely from the first quarter of the 19th Century. It has been engraved with curving, flowing lines throughout the stock that sometimes create palm tree-like shapes. The stock has been set with brass mounts, including a barrel band at the muzzle which has been decorated with pin-struck stamps, an inset medallion in the grip, a lightly engraved trigger guard, a rectangular tang, and a large round pommel shaped as a flower with repoussé petals, finished with a brass pommel cap with delicate engraving. The barrel and lockplate are both engraved, and the lock mechanism itself is in working order.
Bore: 18mm
Ottoman Empire, 19th Century.
L: 19 in., (48.5 cm.)
Condition: Very good overall. Wood is in fine condition and the metal is all bright. Some light staining on the barrel. Engraving on the barrel is somewhat worn.
