AUCTION 50: ANTIQUE MILITARIA, FALL 2024
Lot 450:
The stock has been decoratively shaped with oblong protrusions along the portion affixed to the barrel. The backstrap has a decorative brass insert affixed just below a similarly shaped carving in the wood of the stock itself. The pommel is of rounded brass with an engraved eight-pointed star. The brass trigger guard is of brass and has a repoussé face just ahead of the trigger.
The lockplate is highly engraved with floral designs, as well as a small image of a reclining woman in the nude. The obverse of the lockplate is a filigree frame of brass held to the stock by two screws. The barrel itself has a raised center and engraving near the breech, with a small cartouche of an animal, possibly a deer, set below the word ‘LAZARIN’, this probably being the mark of the creator of this piece.
Italy, ca. 19th Century.
L: 19 1/2 in., (49.5 cm.)
