The Bashkir Cavalry Regiment was a unit of the Russian Imperial Army. It was formed on April 1, 1878, in Orenburg province based on the Bashkir division. According to the “Highly approved Provisional Regulations on the Bashkir Cavalry Regiment” of March 30, 1878, it consisted of 4 squadrons with (officers, non-commissioned officers, trumpeters and non-commissioned ranks of the army cavalry) and variable (Bashkirs, at will performing military service in the regiment on their horse). It was subordinate to the Chief of Staff of the Orenburg Military District. Main tasks: “…a) to train Bashkir recruits who entered the service on their own horse and, b) to serve as a staff for the formation of Bashkir cavalry units in wartime”. In 1878 at the military review in Odesa, Kherson Province, the regiment received a commendation from Emperor Alexander II. The term of service was 1 year 8 months (from January to September of the next year), after which the soldiers were dismissed with the obligation to appear for military training for 2 years. In the second year of service, the most capable of training entered the regimental school, after graduation, they were promoted to non-commissioned officers, the best of them to non-commissioned officers. The number of B.K.P. before the military training camp (May 20 — September 20) was about 800 people (officers, staff, soldiers), during the training camp — 1400 people, and after — 450 people (officers and staff). In 1882, due to the reorganization of the Russian cavalry, hussar and lancer regiments were transformed into dragoon regiments, and the Cossack cavalry was reduced. On July 24, 1882, the B.K.P. was abolished with the condition to form the Bashkir Mounted Militia in wartime. The comm. of the regiment was Colonel A. N. Kryzhanovsky.
