An interesting and unusual Indian talwar with a basket hilt that has been decoratively engraved with foliate motifs throughout, as well as a blade that may be a European saber blade, probably of the 17th or early 18th century. The shape of the hilt is of the same style as a firangi or khanda and is rarely seen paired with a curved blade like that of a talwar.
India — 18th century.
L: 32 1/2 in., (82.5 cm.)
Condition: Some surface rust and pitting in various places. The guard is slightly loose. Otherwise good condition.
