AUCTION 50: ANTIQUE MILITARIA, FALL 2024
Лот 86:
Award St. George banner (standard) for the Shengraben battle (with Hollabrunne) November 4 (16), 1805.
Squadron St. George standard could belong to the 2nd Life Hussar Pavlograd regiment, Chernihiv Dragoon, or one of the two Cossack regiments participating in the battle of Shengraben (requires additional research).
The standard is a unique historical relic, it is one of the first St. George awards of this type and an award for one of the first victories won by the Russian Army over Napoleon.
Material: silk, oil.
Note: Russian military banners were issued either painted on fabric and/or sewn, if the banner was issued during a military compaign, then it would probably be painted over since sewing took a long time.
Condition: There is only one side of the standard, it is in very good condition, the original paint has been preserved, the panel is relined on a fabric, minor restorations and very minor loss of paint.
Provenance: The standard belonged to a Russian White Army immigrant family living in the USA.
46 x 37 5/8 in., (117 x 96 cm.)
Condition: Very good overall with expected signs of wear.
