Russian oil on canvas portrait depicting a young woman in red attributed to Vasily Tropinin. Unsigned. Unframed. Has two labels on the verso: an earlier handwritten one inscribed in Italian and a later one inscribed in English.
Vasily Tropinin (1776-1857) was a Russian Romanic painter. Much of his life was spent as a serf until he became a free man at the age of 47. Tropinin studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg and was elected an Academician in 1824. His most known works are a portrait of Alexander Pushkin (1827) and paintings called The Lace Maker (1823) and The Gold-Embroideress (1826).

Condition: The painting shows a few touch-ups under a black light, The canvas is strong.
