Tribute to Julius Klever (1850-1924). Promenade in autumnal forest. Oil on board. Signed in Cyrillic (lower right). In an ornate gilded frame applied with a bronze plaque engraved in Cyrillic ‘Klever’. The reverse of the frame is stamped with the number ‘4400’.
Yuliy Yulevich (Julius) Klever (31 January 1850-24 December 1924) was a Russian painter best known for his highly mystical, sublime, and Romantic landscape paintings. Set in dense Russian forests at night or dusk, Klever’s work was rendered in a stylized, high-contrast aesthetic that featured intricate detail and saturated hues.
Dimensions: 7 x 5 in., (18 x 13 cm.)
Condition: Varnish darkened. The edges of the board are slightly chipped. Reverse with surface scratches underneath the nails that hold the board in place.
