Large Japanese wooden box modeled in a shape of banana leaf fan, the lid is decorated with images of scholarly items and auspicious emblems in gold hiramaki-e, takamaki-e on the cover and flower branches with mother-of-pearl inlays forming an elegant floral pattern around body?. Raised on four short scroll feet.
Japan, Meiji period, 1868 – 1912.
Dimensions: 20 1/4 in x 11 1/2 x 7 in., (51.4 x 29.2 x 17.8 cm.)
Condition: Very good overall. Some very subtle fading to paint in some places. Some fading to fabric of knots consistent with age.
