Marc Chagall, an ink on paper 1923-1927 etching ‘Chichikov bribing Ivan Antonovich’, an illustration from Chagall’s edition of ‘Dead Souls’ by Nikolai Gogol. Signed lower left. Matted, housed in a wooden frame.
Marc Chagall (1887-1985) was a Russian and French artist of a devout Jewish family. In 1907 Chagall entered the famous Art School in St. Petersburg while working as a sign painter. Throughout his works, there is a foundation of Russian artistic techniques. In 1910 Chagall was in Paris and became influenced by the Cubist period of art. Chagall is world-renowned and one of the masters of color. The whole world was his canvas and he filled it with color.
