A watercolor and gouache with pen and ink on paper abstract drawing. Signed and dated by the author lower left "V.K. 23".
Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky (1866-1944) was a Russian and French artist and theorist, one of the pioneers of abstraction in Western art. After successful avant-garde exhibitions, he founded the influential Munich group Der Blaue Reiter — The Blue Rider, 1911–14, and began completely abstract painting. Taught at the Bauhaus School of art and Architecture from 1922 until the Nazis closed it in 1933.
Provenance: According to the current owner the painting was brought from the Soviet Union to Germany where the work was purchased by the owner in the 1970’s.
