The sculpture depicts the figure of Amida Buddha standing on a multi-tiered base with a Lotus leaf rising behind it. It is made of carved wood in delicate gilding, and the base is decorated with carvings of numerous gilded elements.
Amida Buddha, or Amida Butsu in Japanese, is a distant offshoot of Mahāyāna Buddhism, practiced primarily in East Asia and particularly in Japan.
