A finely engraved Ottoman Egyptian brass qalamdan divit. The piece is decorated with stylized Arabic lettering as well as depictions of the pyramids and the sphinx. The qalamdan divit was used by travelling scribes and calligraphers to store their brushes, quill, or reed pen in the long pen box, and dry ink in the square container.
