Комиссия аукционного дома:

Plate No. 32 from ‘Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende Spiessen’, an important Dutch manual of arms from an unknown author, illustrated by Jacob de Gheyn II with many copper plate engravings. ‘Wapenhandelinghe’ was translated into many languages and spread rapidly throughout Europe, becoming the most important manual of arms for muskets as their use became more widespread.

This plate depicts a Musketeer at rest, holding his musket in his right hand and his furket in his left, along with his length of lit slow match. The spiked bottom of the market can be seen well in this image. The spike provides added stability when planted in the ground and can be used as a weapon in a pinch.

The Hague, Netherlands — ca. 1607.
