Lot 127:
A gilt-silver communion chalice with fine repoussé foliate decoration throughout nearly its entire surface, a wide flared base, and a delicately painted enamel miniature set within that base. The miniature shows a crowned and haloed Madonna and Child with pink robes, a crescent moon with a face being the Madonna’s belt. The words ‘Oclemen Opia Odulcis’ are written on her robe. The underside of the chalice bears a plaque which reads ‘E Piis Ecclesiae Oblatis Curatus 1865’ [Taken Care of by The Pious Offerings of the Church 1865]. The rim of the chalice is stamped with an ‘F.A.D.’ mark as well as the hallmark of Vienna, Austria with the year 1865.
